Over the last few years, brewers all over the world have been concocting strange brews with weird ingredients. The trend has caught up and nary has a day gone by without hearing about an unusual flavour. From an Icelandic beer, infused with the testicles of a whale to pilsners made from human pee – the weirdness just keeps on increasing.

However, here’s a list of 10 unusual beer flavours that you will actually want to try. We have kept the grossness to a minimum and focussed on exotic, never heard before flavours that you’ll want to taste.

A BEER FOR YOUR SWEET TOOTH

Who said beer lovers can’t satisfy their sweet tooth with a brew? The Shorts Brewing Company out of Michigan has created a “Key Lime Pie” flavoured beer. Just like the sweet dessert, this beer is brewed with fresh lime, graham crackers, milk sugar and marshmallow fluff.

It has a prominent “Sweet and Tarty” flavour. And what more, the brew won the Gold Medal at the Great American Beer Festival of 2010.

So, the next time, you get a sugar craving, crack open this one.

EVERYTHING TASTES BETTER WITH BACON

From breakfasts to desserts, Bacon has made its way onto our food plates for all meals. Rogue Ales, a brewer based in Oregon, USA has created an unusual concoction titled, “Collision of Crazies.” The beer is a mix of the flavours of applewood-smoked bacon and Canadian maple syrup.

Pair this one with a plate of fresh out of the oven pastries or pork to bring out the flavours.

WINE OR BEER?

Have you always swayed between this challenging question, “Wine or Beer?” Do you prefer both the grapes and the hops? Can’t decide on one?

Why choose one, when you can have both. The Dogfish Head, based in Delaware has created a brew called as the “Noble Rot.” Fermentable sugars from two varieties of grapes are added to brew a beer that tastes like white wine with tart undertones.

This is the closest you can have of both the worlds. The makers suggest pairing it with shellfish or Gouda for a unique drink.

THE TASTE OF CHRISTMAS

Do you love the holiday season? Well, now you can enjoy a sip of the aroma of the holidays right throughout the year. The Lost Abbey Gift of the Magi is a Christmasy beer that myrrh and frankincense bark in the wort. It is a golden syrup that is reminiscent of the gifts of the three wise men.

This is totally unlike regular Christmasy ales. The spicy flavours go well with the musty flavours to create a unique drink that spreads holiday cheer, every time you open it.

A DESSERTY BEER

It looks like desserts masquerading as beers are quite popular. After, the key lime pie, here’s another Desserty Beer. This time it’s everyone’s favourite dessert in beer form – the Crème Brulee.

Have you often stuffed yourself full of the main course, that you don’t have any more space in your tummy? Now, don’t skip out on desserts just because you’re full. Instead, sip in the form of beers. The “Southern Tier Crème Brulee Stout” is a beer that tastes just like French, Crème Brulee.

SIP ON CHILDHOOD MEMORIES

Do you adore this childhood drink, even now? Now, chocolate milk has gotten an adult twist with this brew. The “Lugene Chocolate Milk Stout” is brewed with sugar, milk and milk chocolate. It has hints of vanilla blended with the roasted malts and milk chocolate flavours.

This beer tastes just like sipping a carton of creamy chocolate milk and is a created from Odell Brewing, Colorado.

SET YOUR TONGUE ON FIRE

After a look at dessert beers, it’s time to spice things up a bit. The Chipotle Ale from Rogue Ales, Oregon, heats things up. This beer is a tribute to Juan De La Cueva, a 15th-century Spanish write. In one of his books, he writes about a traditional, long-forgotten Mexican dish of seedless chipotles paired with beer.

This deep golden ale gives a strong chilly flavour. Also, you can get smoky and malty undertones. Not for the tender-hearted.

A BEER FOR THE WEIGHT WATCHERS

Is a bowl of oatmeal your go-to meal to shed those few extra kilos? Then, you must try out, “Convict Hill Oatmeal Stout” from Austin’s, Craft Pride. This beer contains English roasted barley, flaked oats and Belgian chocolate for a dash of flavour.

FOR THE SEAFOOD LOVERS

The Pearl Necklace Oyster Stout is brewed with fresh-river oysters. This brew is from the taps of Flying Dogs, a Maryland based brewery. The proceeds from the sale of this beer go into restoring the habitat of oysters in the Chesapeake Bay.

IS IT A DESSERT, SEAFOOD OR BEER?

Fans of chocolates, lobster, and beer can rejoice. You can taste all your three favourite food items in one drink. The Dogfish Head is where you can find this oceanic, rich and velvety pour.
